Abstract
The lexical composition of our language, characterized by its antiquity and richness, includes dialectal vocabulary, which is considered even more archaic. It is well known that somatic phraseological units are stable expressions associated with the names of body parts. At present, within linguistic research devoted to the study of our language, there is no separate study specifically addressing stable word combinations formed on the basis of som atisms. A number of issues in this field still remain unresolved. Somatisms in the Azerbaijani language, as discussed in the article, are linguistic units that play the most active role in the formation of phraseological units. Particularly in dialects and vernaculars, somatisms are extensively involved in the creation of numerous phraseological expressions. Linguistic units possessing the characteristics of phraseological combinations constitute a distinct layer within the dialectal lexical system of the language. A componential analysis of these combinations demonstrates the active participation of somatic expressions, numerals, and verbs such as “to be”, “to do”, “to look” and others in their formation. The names of body parts such as “head”, “tongue”, “throat”, “eye”, and “finger” play a central role in the formation of these units. The article provides clarification of these issues.
