The Character of Sevinch and the Artistic Interpretation of Women’s Destiny in the Novel “Ota”

Abstract

This article examines the character of Sevinch and her tragic fate in Ulugbek Hamdam’s novel “Ota” (“Father”) from the perspective of the artistic representation of women’s destiny within the family, society, and moral value system. Sevinch’s life is analyzed not only as an individual tragedy, but also in the context of the complex conflict between personal choice, family responsibility, paternal authority, and social judgment. Her physical and psychological trauma in childhood, the development of her relationship with her father Po‘lat, and the tragic circumstances that determine her later life are interpreted as important factors shaping the evolution of her character. Particular attention is paid to the artistic details and symbolic motifs, including fire, dreams, birds, and the image of the home, which contribute to revealing the heroine’s psychological state and the ideological structure of the novel. The article also explores the social evaluation of a woman’s mistake, the relativity of moral standards, and the limits of judgment imposed on an individual for a particular action. The study concludes that Sevinch is not merely a tragic female character, but a complex literary figure whose individual fate acquires broader social, ethical, and philosophical significance. Ultimately, Sevinch is presented as a complex figure whose individual tragedy develops into a social and philosophical generalization.
