Microlearning as a modern technology of teaching Russian as a foreign language

Abstract

The article examines microlearning as a modern educational technology in the context of teaching Russian as a foreign language. The relevance of the study is determined by the digitalization of the educational environment, changes in learners’ cognitive characteristics, and the demand for flexible formats of language training. The aim of the work is to provide a theoretical justification for applying microlearning in the linguodidactics of RFL and to identify its methodological potential. The methodological foundation includes cognitive load theory, self-determination theory, and the connectivist approach. The analysis of domestic and foreign studies shows that dividing learning material into short targeted modules increases motivation, information retention, and learner autonomy. It has been established that microlearning is effective in developing lexical, grammatical, and pronunciation skills, but it involves risks of knowledge fragmentation and reduced depth of understanding. It is substantiated that the technology should be integrated into a holistic methodological system rather than replace traditional formats. The principles of designing microcontent for RFL are defined: unity of the learning task, dosing, multimodality, and feedback. The practical significance lies in developing recommendations for implementing microformats in mobile and blended learning models. It is concluded that microlearning is a promising tool for supplementing, but not replacing, systematic language education.
