Comparative Analysis of Predicate Constructions in English, Uzbek, Karakalpak and Russian

Abstract

This study undertakes a comparative typological examination of predicate constructions across English, Uzbek, Karakalpak, and Russian, situated within the broader framework of translation theory. It delineates salient structural divergences: the predominantly analytical character of English predicate expression, the agglutinative affixational mechanisms characteristic of Uzbek and Karakalpak, and the hybrid synthetic-analytical patterning observed in Russian. Particular emphasis is placed on the attainment of semantic, grammatical, and functional equivalence in the rendition of predicates, with sustained attention to challenges arising from tense–aspect distinctions, phrasal verbs, idiomatic verbal usages, and the preservation of argument structure. Drawing upon Komissarov’s hierarchical model of translational equivalence, the analysis underscores the indispensability of grammatical transformations and contextually informed cultural adaptation to secure fidelity in conveying both propositional content and communicative intent. The findings affirm that effective predicate translation constitutes a multifaceted process contingent upon the interplay of semantic, morphosyntactic, pragmatic, and discourse-pragmatic dimensions.
