Developing intercultural competence through artificial intelligence tools (in the context of teaching the Turkish language)
Abstract
This article explores the development of intercultural competence in teaching Turkish as a foreign language through artificial intelligence (AI) tools. The study is theoretically grounded in the concept of communicative competence proposed by Dell Hymes and the model of intercultural communicative competence developed by Michael Byram. The experimental phase assessed the effectiveness of AI-based chatbots, virtual simulations, and adaptive learning platforms. The findings demonstrate a significant improvement in students’ linguistic accuracy, sociolinguistic appropriateness, and cultural awareness. The results highlight the methodological value of integrating AI technologies into Turkish language instruction.
