Language Policy and Linguistic Identity in the Context of Globalization: Problems and Solution Perspectives
Abstract
Globalization is one of the most powerful macro-social processes transforming linguistic ecology. As nation-state-centered regulatory approaches erode, the rise of English as a global language of communication restructures linguistic hierarchies. This development has generated new debates in areas such as multilingualism, language shift, linguistic inequality, and identity negotiation. Drawing on contemporary linguistic scholarship, this study analyzes the impact of globalization on linguistic identity, discusses emerging problem areas, and proposes solution-oriented perspectives. The findings indicate that linguistic diversity has not entirely disappeared; rather, it has been reorganized within unequal power relations. The study argues that multilayered governance approaches and rights-based perspectives will be decisive in the future.
