Methodological foundations of teaching phraseologisms (based on the french language material): principles of material selection and teaching sequence
Abstract
The article examines the methodological foundations of teaching French idioms at the B2-C1 levels. The relevance of developing phraseological competence for enhancing students’ communicative skills is substantiated. The principles for selecting phraseological material are proposed, including frequency, level appropriateness, thematic integration, cultural significance, and stylistic differentiation. Four stages of working with idioms are described: introduction in context, comprehension practice, usage training, and systematic reinforcement. Practical recommendations are provided for educators on effectively integrating idioms into the learning process through the use of authentic materials, visualization, intercultural comparisons, and digital technologies. The materials of this article can be utilized in the development of advanced-level French language courses.
